Emma L. Payne

An original thinker and authority on the digital age

Author and leading expert in cross-platform media, Internet policy and the role of women in technology. Emma L Payne runs her own successful Internet company and is founder of the Wired Woman business network, a non-profit organisation for women in technology in Canada.

She co-founded her first Internet business in 1995 and is now the president and CEO of At Large Media, a company committed to helping companies to connect with individual consumers through new media rather than conventional advertising.

Emma believes new media, video games and wireless technology give modern companies a unique chance to connect with customers and give them a voice in media and product creation.

What's her background?

Emma has an honours degree in Media Communication from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and later a masters in Technology and Policy from MIT in Boston, Massachusetts.

She had a column in the Globe & Mail, Canada's oldest national newspaper, and is a recipient of the Women of Distinction Award from Spotlight, a Canadian institute celebrating women's achievements in entertainment, communications and the new media.

Her research into Internet broadcasting policy and the impact of the Internet on society has also led to numerous international engagements as a speaker and pundit.

Recently, Emma delivered a keynote address to senior managers of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on The Future of Radio and an appearance in Washington DC moderating a panel on new opportunities for doing business across borders.

In October 2000, Emma also turned her passion for women and technology into a best-seller, Technology With Curves, a book highlighting women's success reshaping the digital landscape.
